Mike and I took on the deck battens that parallel the strong back. He and I got the port batten fitted prior to cracking our beer. Then I couldn’t sleep and I finished up the starboard batten and started fairing the battens at the sheer….Here’s where things stand now.

I started on the strong back today. This will form the backbone of the foredeck and provides the shape of the front of the deck. I notched the strong back into the two deck beams and then into the dash. This all had to be done so as to have the dash aligned nicely. The two beams and the dash all followed the same arc (traced from the beam within frame #4.

Here’s another view of the final result. You can see the port carling defining the interior of cockpit here as well. I’ve left the carling extra wide with the idea that I might plank the interior too…

I replaced the casters on the rear to finish the job started the other day but the universial casters on the rear made the boat too easy to push around, so I had to undo the change I did to start the day.
I did get the starboard sheer nearly trimmed and fair today. I spent a long time screwing around with different tools only to learn that I could use a cutting rasp to bring the sheer into line at each station and then fair in between. The port side is on deck this weekend….
